一個來自英國的研究顯示，很多病人在出現中風症狀時並不知道自己正在中風。
這研究包括在 14 年五個月期間發病的 150 名病人，當中有三份之二並不知道自己中風和延遲就醫，同時亦有約多三份之一病人眼部出現症狀 (視覺變得模糊又或者是突然失去視力, 但並不感到痛楚)。
